How to Find the Perfect Celebrant in Wangaratta

Your wedding celebrant is more than just the person officiating your ceremony, they set the tone, create an atmosphere of warmth and connection, and ensure your love story is beautifully told. Whether you’re looking for someone with a relaxed, heartfelt approach or a celebrant who brings humour and personality to the occasion, finding the perfect fit is key to making your ceremony truly special.

Here’s what to consider when choosing a local celebrant in and around Wangaratta and the King Valley and through North East Victoria.

           Define Your Ceremony Style

Before you begin your search, think about the type of ceremony you hve in mind.

Do you want something deeply emotional and personal?

            Light-hearted and fun?

A mix of tradition and modernity?

Some celebrants specialise in romantic storytelling, while others bring a more structured or formal approach. Clarifying what resonates with you will help narrow down your options. You’ll find that Cheryl Warry Wangaratta Celebrant is flexible, formal yet fun and can guide you through the maze of legal paperwork.

           Research Local Celebrants

Wangaratta and its surrounding areas have a wonderful selection of celebrants, each with their own unique style and expertise. Start by browsing celebrant directories, wedding websites, and social media pages to get a feel for their personality and approach. Look for celebrants who align with your values, whether that’s inclusivity, personalisation, or a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Google local celebrants and Cheryl Warry will be in that list as a preferred Celebrant by many venues and very happy couples.

           Read Reviews and Testimonials

A great way to gauge whether a celebrant is the right fit is through reviews from past couples. Pay attention to feedback about their warmth, professionalism, and ability to create a meaningful connection as well as their attention to detail and eail follow-up.

If multiple couples mention how effortlessly a celebrant captured their love story, chances are they’ll do the same for you! Rehearsals are not always a given but by choosing Cheryl Warry Marriage Celebrant you will be guaranteed a rehearsal which will in turn put you and your support crew at ease.

Meet in Person or Via Video Call

Once you’ve shortlisted a few celebrants, schedule a meeting or video call. This is your chance to see whether their personality and energy resonate with you. A great celebrant will make you feel comfortable, listen to your vision, and offer thoughtful suggestions to make your ceremony truly reflect who you are as a couple. Choosing a local Celebrant will work in your favour, they will most likely have a relationship with the local vendors, know the landscape of the venue and no need for accommodation or travel costs.

If you haven't been married before then you don't know what you don't know so here are some prompts to consider asking during your consultation:

What is your approach to creating a personalised ceremony?

Can we incorporate cultural traditions or unique elements?

Do you provide assistance with writing vows?

How do you handle unexpected changes, such as bad weather?

Do you provide a PA and mic, is your PA system battery operated?

Is a signing table included in your cost?

What’s included in your package (paperwork, rehearsal, travel, official marriage certificate, etc.)?

           Consider Their Experience and Adaptability

An experienced celebrant understands how to manage emotions, time constraints, and unexpected hiccups. They’ll keep the ceremony flowing seamlessly and ensure that your guests remain engaged. Additionally, if you have unique requests such as including pets, blending cultural traditions, or writing custom vows, look for a celebrant who is adaptable and excited to bring your ideas to life. Their experience will allow them to think on their feet and have many skills to call on if things go a little off script.

           Trust Your Instincts

Ultimately, the perfect celebrant is someone who makes you feel at ease, genuinely understands your love story, and brings the kind of energy you want for your wedding day. If you walk away from your meeting feeling inspired and excited, you’ve likely found the right person!

Planning a King Valley Winery Wedding: What You Need to Know

When you imagine your wedding ceremony, chances are you're picturing sunshine, gentle hills, vineyards rolling away into the distance, and a celebrant who knows how to create a relaxed and engaging moment among the vines.

That's why winery weddings have become a favourite across North east Victoria - from King Valley to Wahgunyah and Rutherglen. They're scenic, intimate and set the perfect tone for a day that feels both classy and fun.

The Setting Does Half The Work

Vineyards create a natural sense of romance and calm.

Guests arrive already smiling, glass in hand and suddenly the ceremony becomes an experience, not something they sit through waiting for the bar to open.

A ceremony That Matches The Venue

           A winery wedding calls for:

            a relaxed pace

            gentle humour

            heartfelt storytelling

            elegance without formality

           No borrowed love quotes.

One of the best parts about a King Valley wedding is incorporating the rich local culture and traditions:

           •	Italian-inspired Cuisine

From handmade pasta to gourmet grazing tables, food plays a central role in winery weddings here in the North East Victoria.

            •	Prosecco and Regional Wines

King Valley is famous for its sparkling prosecco—incorporate it into your toast or create a prosecco bar for guests!

            •	Farm-to-Table Dining

Many venues collaborate with local growers to serve fresh, seasonal dishes.

           Accommodation Guest Experience

Since King Valley is a destination wedding location, consider providing accommodation options for guests:

           •	Boutique Vineyard Stays – Many wineries offer cozy cottages or luxury lodges for a full wine-country experience.

           • Local Hotels and B&Bs – Milawa, Wangaratta, and surrounding towns provide excellent hospitality.

           •	Transport – Consider shuttle buses or pre-arranged transport to make it easy for guests to enjoy the celebration without worry.

I'm soooo in love with this horizontal arbour - it stood out not because of it's hieght but because it was so different.

The beauitful colours created an arch around the bridal party which then took the eye skyward as we scaled the tall gum tress in the background. This meant that a vertical arbour didn't have to compete against the straightness of the surrounding bush.

This particular wedding was a union of two cultures - the colour scheme leaned in to Indian colours, specifically the variety of Indian spices. A real treat for the senses!

It's Your Wedding, Choose Your Colour

This bride was steadfast in her vision for her wedding party; her bridesmaids and the groomsmen all wore black. The girls carried white roses as did the bride and the drama of the white on black is not lost on me. The brides dressed 'popped' against the bridal party and this celebrant just loved the effect.
It's your wedding, nothing is off limits when it comes to your colour scheme.

One thing Covid has taught us, nothing is off limits. When guests can't attend an event, modern technology steps in.
In this instance one of the bridesmaids had taken ill and was in hospital at the time of the ceremony so Grandma brought her ipad and live streamed the whole event so the bridesmaid and sister didn't miss out.
Not all that long ago this would have been frowned upon but not in the current climate, in fact it is quite acceptable.

Keeping Memories Alive In A Wedding

It goes without saying that a wedding ceremony can be highly emotional however, this emotion can be taken to a whole different level when someone very special is missing from your special day.

'Missing' could be due to the loss of a loved one or due to circumstances such as Covid restrictions that is preventing a loved one from being physically present.

There are many different ways to honour that person or persons, it is an entirely personal choice.

My own daughter-in-law carried miniature framed photos (pictured here) of grandparents - both hers and her grooms, attached to her bouquet.

           Other suggestions can be subtle or more stated such as;

Stage a memorial table which could include large framed photos.

A vacant chair with a familiar item, words not required.

A candle lit by the bride and groom and allowed to burn throughout the ceremony.

A family heirloom such as Grandpas's handkerchief could be the pocket square for the groom

Or a special necklace or bracelet worn by the bride.

There are no rules or restrictions about how to honour a loved one so the options are limited only by your imagination!

Including Children In Your Ceremony

A few simple ideas to involve children in a ceremony

I'm often asked how children can be included in a ceremony. My advice is always "don't over complicate it".

There is a lot happening on the day for little people to absorb and understand. Even if you think they will be fine and all went well at the rehearsal, there is suddenly a very different vibe as they are surrounded by a lot of people, who weren't there at rehearsal, and more often than not, are new to them, watching their every move.

They could be included as flowergirls / pageboys. A ring bearer is often a popular choice however, I strongly recommend that your valuable wedding rings not be placed in the sole charge of a young attendant. Purely for photographic purposes, allow them to carry fake rings so you then don't have to worry about a four year old suddenly being distracted and running off to create their own adventure with your precious jewelry in their hand!

Carrying a sign always gets a giggle and there is the bubble blowing or petal throwing flowergirls who will bring out the happy tears from the Grandmas.

Teenagers could be invited to share a reading or escort mother/father down the aisle.

Depending on their comfort and confidence level, be creative with how children of all ages can be involved in making memories of your ceremony.

As a Celebrant I often find myself stepping up to attach the buttonhole flower for the groom and his crew!

The box of buttonholes is usually delivered to the venue and can be missed leaving a last minute rush to attach the buttonholes to the groom and his crew. This is where your Celebrant will step up to the plate and attach the flora.

First rule is that men wear them on the left lapel of their jacket (over their heart), with the stem facing downwards.

Some florists are very supportive and provide the arrangement with a safety pin attached, making it so much easier to line it up. Otherwise they usually come with two pins. If the pins have a pearl head, I then attach them from the front, however just a plain pin then attach from the back so that the pins are not visible.

If mother or father of the groom is nearby, I will encourage them to step in and attach the boutonniere, at the same time clueing up the photographer, these are great photo opportunities!

Covid-19 Wedding Restrictions In Victoria

"When is the right time to decide on postponing my wedding in the Covid-19 health crisis?"

COVID-19 has thrown many couples in to a spin and with all the months and sometimes years of planning, it has come down to making the choice to postpone or to go with the restrictions of just five people for what is most likely to be a legals-only style of ceremony.

It is clear to see that the Corona Virus is not going away any time soon and I am mindful not to add to the potential risk, stress and harm that the virus may cause. It’s important that as an Australian marriage celebrant, I comply with the rules set down by our government and that they are adhered to, to the best of my ability.

The Covid-19 restrictions that now apply to weddings, have been put in place to protect our nearest and dearest. If a couple still wish to get married, of course this is still possible, providing there are no more than five people present. This includes the marriage celebrant, the couple and their two legal witnesses over the age of 18. If the couple still wish to have a photographer and/or videographer then they must act as a witness. As laid out by the Australian Government, social distancing of at least 1.5 metres must be applied and the four square metre rule must be observed, this includes the signing of the legal documents.

In the face of Corona Virus, one of the biggest challenges couples are faced with currently is to decide when to pull the trigger on their date and move it to a date further into 2020 or even move to 2021. Many of my couples have already made the decision to move weddings that are booked from now through to September and October until earlier in to 2021. Not an easy decision to make and there are many variables to consider; guests travel plans and accommodation to just begin with.

If you are unsure of what to do, I would suggest that you engage with your suppliers and enquire about future dates and their availability. Yours won’t be the first call they have taken to discuss this very topic.

I'm available to chat about your options either by email, zoom or over the phone.

As many have said, we are living in such uncertain times and Covid-19 / Corona Virus is testing even the most resilient of us. Let's put the welfare of you, your families and your guests first.

It's not very often that we find pictures of a bridal party that are so animated.

Picture this, an outdoor wedding, beginning of December in Gippsland and one would hope that the weather Gods were smiling down on brides. Not this day, it had rained all morning so Plan B was engaged. A marquee went up and guests were sheltered.

Our beautiful bride Sarah was ready for her processional, the music had started and the first bridesmaid had made her way to the aisle.

However the ground had already become slippery so there was no saving our first bridesmaid as she began her walk down the aisle. As soon as her feet reached the slippery grass on a gentle slope, down she went. No bones were broken only her pride had been dented.

Growing up around horses all her life, it was of no surprise when our bride entered her parents property on her beautiful mare. These two have such a strong connection that there was never any concern about how this entrance would go.

Our beautiful bride elegantly dismounted, if there is ever such a thing when in a white brides dress, and gracefully continued to walk down the aisle with her father by her side the whole way.

Photographer Jason Vannan very cleverly captured this pictured - as a Celebrant I am very mindful to step out of shot for most of the ceremony. However, there are times when a photographer gets creative and works with the Celebrant.

I love this photo because I was looking straight down the lens; being recognised by other suppliers is one of the biggest compliments a Celebrant can receive.

One thing that is often overlooked, without the celebrant, the occasion would just be a very expensive party.

Often I am asked to stay and mingle with guests for a celebratory drink after the ceremony is completed. This is always a well received gesture on my part but often take the opportunity to just slip away quietly whilst the guests are gathering for the group photo.

This is a rare picture of me enjoying a cheeky bubbles with my sister-in-law captured by the lovely Tanya of Tanya Volt Wedding Photography.

This was quite a different situation as I had just finished officiating over my nephews wedding so I was there as a guest. It is so lovely to be able to soak up the atmosphere and the post-ceremony-just-married feeling of not just the newly married couple but also of their family and friends.

This celebration was similar to so many others whereby family and friends partied long in to the night.

Just loved being part of this country wedding where the guests could party til sunrise with no fear of being asked to leave at midnight. Why? Because it was held at the groom's family property.

Food trucks rolled in and were adjacent to the large marquee where the band played through the night. The fire pit raged and conversations were engaging.

Drinks were flowing from a fully reno'd caravan aptly named The Rambler. The groom was responsible for this complete make-over and this event was her first outing, and guaranteed not to be her last - it was a huge success.

Couples Are Moving More and More Towards Unplugged

These days, more and more couples are choosing to have an unplugged ceremony as part of their day.

For those of you that this might be new to, an unplugged wedding is one in which electronics are “unplugged”, meaning the guests are politely asked, usually for the ceremony, to refrain from taking photos or video. This has become quite popular in recent years, equally so has the ‘plugged’ wedding where guests are encouraged to take photos throughout the entire day.

Instead of the old disposable cameras left on tables at the reception, guests are invited to download popular ‘free’ apps such as wedpics where they can then upload all their photos taken. This is a great way to encourage guests to use their technology at the same time discouraging them from adding them to social media before the couple have a chance to announce their marriage officially.

There are pros and cons for both sides of this argument and it is really an individual choice. Just remember that by asking guests not to take photos you may also miss out on some great candid shots that your photographers may not capture – they can’t be in all places all of the time.

           Your celebrant could commence the ceremony prior to the Bride’s arrival with such words as;

Guests, can you please refrain from taking any photos as the bride enters, however the couple are happy for you to snap away throughout the ceremony. Also, please wait until the newlyweds make their announcement on social media – we all know that it’s not official until the bride and/or groom updates their marital status on facebook!

           Or

Please turn off all cameras and devices, sit back and relax while our professional photographer captures this special occasion - we promise to share with you the many beautiful pictures he/she will capture today

           Or

The Bride and Groom respectfully request that you please turn your phones to silent … there’s a lovely photographer here taking photos…they asked her to come, so please rest your camera as the ceremony only needs one.

There are so many decisions to make throughout the wedding planning process so try not to let unplugged v plugged by the bug bear that will stress you out! If you are just not sure of what to do then perhaps consider asking for no electronic devices to be used during the ceremony, and then request that they put them to work once the ceremony has concluded.

Regardless of your decision, it will probably fade in to the shadows as you focus on your day unfolding.

How to Honour Our Loved Ones At A Wedding

It is always difficult if someone has died in the family, and even more so, when it is just days, weeks or even months before a wedding ceremony. Chat with your celebrant about how the memory of your loved one can be included whether it be in a subtle manner through a candle being lit or a photograph near the signing table or at the entry point of the aisle or even placed on a chair where they may have taken up position had they been there. It’s also worth considering discussing this with other members of the family because it is important so that no-one gets a real shock when they hear the deceased's name.

If it is someone really close like a parent or grandparent, then maybe there is a lovely quote they may have used, or offered some advice, or you can just choose to mention them during the speeches when most people are a little more relaxed and the sadness won’t cast a shadow over the ceremony.

On one occasion my bride lost her father just a day earlier, she was amazingly stoic and decided to continue on as there were people coming from overseas and interstate – I personally don’t think the shock had really set in – we opted for a candle to be lit as she walked down the aisle and it remained lit for the ceremony and throughout the reception.

What was important in this instance was to find the balance of being able to enjoy the day without the bride feeling guilty about being happy yet still mourning the loss of her father.:

There are many ways to remember those important people in our lives who cannot be with us in person; my own daughter-in-law attached thumbnail sized pictures to her bouquet of grandparents that had been lost to us.

There is a time and a place for dedication and finding the balance can go either way. Weddings are a time for happiness, time for reflection and a time for sharing so providing the memories of loved ones is respected with delicacy and respect, then it doesn’t have to overshadow the celebration of two people’s commitments to each other.

Not setting a budget - It’s so easy to get carried away, there are so many choices to be made and often it’s the smaller purchases, the favours, the decorations, the candy bar, or stationery that can end in tears. Set a realistic budget and have a talk early on as a couple about your “deal breakers”, what you really want to pull out all the stops on.

My friend is going to take photos at my wedding - As a celebrant there is a huge difference between officiating at a wedding where a professional photographer is documenting the event and those where the photographer is an enthusiastic amateur. Usually the first difference is that I am totally unaware of the professional at work, they are unobtrusive and make the best use of their equipment to get in close. The amateur on the other hand is in my face, standing in front of guests and asking for the kiss / ring exchange / signing to be repeated so they can capture it. Word of Warning - if you hire an amateur for your wedding, expect an amateur result!

Not listening to your Experienced Wedding Vendor - There has been a lot of hype about “wedding mark up” and often vendors are seen as money grabbing opportunists. The truth is vendors may charge more for a wedding because a wedding is more work than other events. Your wedding vendor makes themselves available for calls, consultations and planning meetings and may send dozens of emails back and forth with their clients before the event. Most of all they are committed to making your wedding a success, after all, their reputation depends on it.Listen to your wedding vendor’s advice, they’ve been involved in hundreds of weddings and they know from experience what works and what doesn’t. Trust their knowledge and experience and draw on it.

Not considering your guests – Most weddings take place in the height of summer at a gorgeous outdoor venue. Remember whatever the weather conditions your guests will be out in them longer than you will. If you have no shade, consider hiring umbrellas for your guests or suggesting they bring their own hats or umbrellas. Consider having handbag fans for guests and/or bottle water on hand to keep them hydrated. even a couple of tubs of sunscreen will be much appreciated by your guests.

Make sure you have a “Plan B” in case of rain or the unforseen cold snap and ensure you have a Plan B communication plan for your guests. If your ceremony site is a little hard to find include a map in your invitation or your wedding website or Facebook page, and if it’s a little off the beaten track then some quirky road sings will build the anticipation and guests won’t get lost.

Being late for your own wedding - Keeping your guests waiting especially on a hot summer’s day, will not impress them. In addition a late bride means a late ceremony, a late reception, less time for post ceremony photos and over cooked or cold food. Put together a run sheet to ensure your preparation before your ceremony is planned and everyone involved in your wedding party knows what has to be accomplished before that walk down the aisle.

It’s easy to avoid these potential disasters with good planning and making great choices. Your wedding professionals will be an invaluable source of advice and experience if you need clarification or guidance.

Choosing Music For The Ceremony

Music Can Set The Mood Of The Day

Out of all the events to celebrate your marriage, the wedding ceremony itself will probably be the most meaningful and, hopefully, memorable. It will also be the scene setter for all the fun and celebration that will follow at the reception.

But, let’s be honest, the ceremony itself is the reason for the celebration!

One of the biggest decisions you will need to make is whether to have live music of PA music. So many choices and more often than not it will come down to budget. That said there is no comparison between a duo who can read the mood of your guests over a selection from an itunes playlist. I've worked with some very talented duo's, Tim and Lisa Duo (not pictured here) are a very popular choice

Part of planning your ceremony is choosing the music and your celebrant can guide you if you are stuck for ideas. What I have found is that for some couples they find choosing the ceremony music difficult – so many choices to refine it to just three, four or five. So much so, that they sometimes give up, choose a couple of traditional songs for the Processional and Recessional, and leave it at that. And, while that is certainly one choice which will work well for some couples, I do believe that the ceremony music can be so much more.

Music can enrich almost any event, and that is particularly true of a wedding! And you can certainly enrich your own ceremony with the beauty and grandeur of music. Some opt for live music with a solo violinist or harpist; others are happy to have their favourite tunes waft over the PA system

The music you choose for your wedding ceremony is a reflection of you and your hopes and your dreams. In essence, the music you choose allows you to share an important part of yourself with your guests. It touches both you and them, and can bring you and your guests together.

Tip for Processional – You may need to consider two songs, one for the bridal party and one for the bride-to-be. These could be meaningful and poignant or as a couple, ‘your special song’

Tip for Signing the Legals – This is the fill-in music, so something that your guests will enjoy listening to whilst you are signing the legal documents, keep in mind that you may need two songs here.

Tip for Recessional – Pick something upbeat and happy as this symbolises the start or the celebrations

What Do Flowers Say About You

Choosing flowers requires a lot of thought and consideration for maximum effect

How do you select your flowers, not only will you be carrying them, have them for Grooms button hole, they will be in all your photos and possibly throughout the reception venue.

Well chosen flowers bouquets and buttonholes enhance the atmosphere, colour and fragrance of the occasion and creates a beautiful and elegant environment.

So where do you begin? A few things to consider are colour, season, venue space and how they will complement your ‘theme’.

Let’s look at venue first; think about the space and what flowers would work best be they large assortments or small and delicate. Indoor or outdoor. Window lighting, colour of the walls or carpet can all have an impact on the flowers. I suggest you take a photo of your ceremony and venue location to show your florist. This will help them to guide you with your choices.

Season plays a big role in choices and cost. At a price your florist can ship in non-seasonal flowers however choosing in-season flowers will certainly help reduce the cost and there will be more choices.

Choosing a colour is possibly the easiest step of choosing flowers as you are probably already working to a theme. Will your theme be romantic, rustic, modern, traditional; the choices are endless as you’re your flower choices. Pops of colour will add to the theatre and to your photo portfolio so be careful not to clash with the bridal party colours.

In this photo the bridal couple chose a native theme, relying on the surroundings to provide a delightful backdrop. Their choice to place bunches of native flowers in hessian covered buckets, tied with lace and strategically placed on logs made a fabulous ‘arbour’.

As a bride or groom, your pre-wedding beauty preparation should be one of the most enjoyable parts of planning your wedding.

Here are a few practical tips to help you prepare for your big event.

           Skin

            – you want to be feeling and looking radiant on your wedding day but sometimes the stress in the lead up to the day can play havoc with your skin. Book in a consultation at least six months before your ceremony to work out the best treatment for your skin type and then schedule regular facials.

If you’re down to just a few weeks before the big day, or are being very mindful of your budget, then do this at least a couple of weeks before the wedding to give any blemishes or impurities time to clear.

           Tip for her

Experimenting with new make-up or skincare products in the fortnight before your wedding is a huge no-go – if you get a reaction, it may not clear up in time – more stress

           Tip for him

Even if you’re a blokey bloke and don’t care too much about wedding beauty preparation, starting a simple skincare regime months out (daily cleansing and moisturising will do the job) could make a huge difference to your skin come wedding day

           Make-up

            – A professional make-up artist will ensure your make-up lasts the distance; they know how to give the professional touch that is needed to look your best in your photos. If you are going to engage a professional wedding make-up artist then do get in early and do your research well in advance. Word of mouth of course is the best way to find a reliable make-up artist because let’s face it, we only recommend those we trust to do the job.

           Tip for her

Professionals know all the tricks to ensure you look gorgeous in your photos, but it’s important to ensure that you’re comfortable with your look too, so book in at least one trial run with a make-up artist so that you will be comfortable with the look

           Tip for him

Even the blokeyist of blokes use make-up for men, let’s face it, a spot of well-placed concealer can hide dark circles and blemishes and with a good make-up artist, no one will ever know

           Hair

            - In the months before the wedding, avoid a radical new haircut, this applies to both the bride and the groom. There might not be enough time to grow it out if it doesn’t turn out the way you had visualised.

           Tip for her

If you have the budget, it really pays to have a practice styling session with your hairdresser. Take along some pictures of styles you like, so you’ll be able to work out what suits you.

           Tip for him

Guys don’t always get the chance to pamper themselves, but a barbershop visit may be just the thing for that extra-smooth shave or perfectly-trimmed beard, also makes for a great morning session with the groomsmen.

           Hands & Nails

            - It’s hard to find time on the day to fit everything in, so opting for a gel manicure a day or two before will free up more time on the day. Also get a great, glossy finish with zero smudging or chips. Organise a session for you and your bridal party to ensure all the girls are looking at their best and are matching.

           Tip for her

Give your nails a polish-free few weeks pre-wedding so they’re in great condition and not liable to break.

            Tip for him

Manicures aren’t just about polish, though many men are trying this out too. Having your nails shaped, hands massaged and cuticles attended to will mean you can confidently show off that new ring you’ll be wearing

The wedding arch is the backdrop and the frame

There are so many details that go into planning a memorable wedding.

Often the arch is the least thought about prop, yet it is the frame to your ceremony that your guests observe and witness this special event. As you walk down the aisle you will love having gorgeous flowers or flowing cloth and rustic wood to frame your memorable moment. It will be a little taste of your style that will stand out in photos for years to come.

Once you have decided that you would like a wedding arch to be a part of your ceremony, you need to then consider how you will obtain one. . There are so many options. One is to purchase a wedding arch and then decorate it yourself with flowers. You may have a handyman you can call on to create one to suit your style, but then there is always the consideration of how to transport to your venue and then how to construct it.

You can also rent a wedding arch, usually the supplier of your tables and chairs may also have arches to order, leaving either yourself and your bridesmaids or your florist to add the floral finishing touches.

Some venues already have a purpose built arch they can provide, allowing your to decorate yourself.

The arch you choose is limited only by your imagination; the display above was created by the bride and her trusty bridesmaids. They visited the local market and purchased buckets of native flowers. The brides sister sourced a few logs and had them cut down to size and they created this beautiful frame - they used the natural surroundings to do the rest for them.

Remember though, if you do purchase your own arch you can put it in your backyard later as a constant reminder of your incredibly special big day!

Practice Makes Perfect - Six Tips

There are some aspects of the day that you just shouldn't 'wing-it'

Here is a list of things that should be non-negotiable's on your TO-DO list. It goes without saying that you will get a hair, make-up and tanning trial to say nothing of how many times you will ‘swoosh’ your wedding dress.

           Camera Shy

Spend some time with your photographer, even consider doing an engagement photo shoot so you know how your photographer communicates.

           First Dance

I would encourage you both to take a few formal dance lessons, particularly if wither of you have "two left feet".

Vows and Speeches This is a given, don’t wing it because you may forget some very important people in the moment when all the attention is on you. Practice it loud a few times and in to a mirror is a good way of getting familiar with the words.

           Rehearsal

This is a given. You may think a rehearsal is unnecessary – you’ve been to so many weddings, you know the routine. Maybe not. Chances are you haven’t actually done that walk as a bride, with all eyes on you. You could be the coolest of brides but as soon as you hit the top of the aisle and you capture a sea of faces with all eyes on you, there is undoubtedly a rush of adrenaline and the nerves kick in. All thoughts of what to do go out the window, even just putting one foot in front of the other has challenged a few brides at this point.

           Wedding Shoes

Always practice wearing and walking in your wedding shoes. Take them to your rehearsal as this is where you will have to learn to manoeuvre over uneven terrain, perhaps down steps or along the chapel aisle. Consider having two pairs, one for the ceremony and photos and one that you know you can dance the night away on the dance floor and won’t give you blisters that will ruin your honeymoon.

           Ending Conversations Gracefully

As you greet your guests, you'll find that everyone will want to hold a conversation with you, and if you let them go on too long it will take your night away. Practice sentences that warmly express your gratitude for your guests being there on your special day and then a polite closure that helps you move on to the next table. Something like, 'We are so happy you could be here! Please, enjoy your dinner and the bar is over there when you're ready for a refill or hope to see you on the dance floor. This makes you a gracious host and guests are happy that you have acknowledged their presence.

Surprise weddings take a lot of planning, so here are some useful tips

Thinking about having a surprise wedding? They are a very popular choice, particularly if you want to avoid the typical wedding stress in the lead up to the ceremony. While they are a much more relaxed alternative, there are a few things you may want to consider when the penny finally drops!

           Tell key people

: might be a good idea to bring your parents in on the surprise; they can be a big help and may need it in the lead up to the day and let’s face it, you don’t want to get them offside!

           Give your celebration a disguise

: Make it something important to ensure your guests make the effort to come. I suggest calling it your engagement party or that particularly significant birthday party.

Going it alone equals hard work

: The less people that know, the less help you’ll have. Consider keeping your styling very simple because you won’t have a lot of support with so few people in on the surprise.

           Choose your celebrant

: Work closely with your celebrant and choreograph how they won’t be ‘discovered’ before the surprise is announced. One hint of someone ‘official’ will blow the surprise you’ve worked so hard to keep.

           Think about the announcement

: When are you going to tell everyone that you’re about to get married? It could be with a sign as guests walk in; it could be the speeches that turn in to an announcement; you could ask the celebrant to take over the microphone and spring the surprise.

           Give a gift option

: Family and friends might want to give a better gift once the wedding is over. It’s perfectly fine to set up an online registry to allow guests to get you a little something extra to celebrate your surprise.

How To Include a Fur-Baby

How do you include that special fur-baby friend

Why not include them in your celebrations

It is important to be surrounded by the people you love on your wedding day. For many couples, their nearest and dearest include a four-legged friend, but the question often is not whether or not you want your pet in the wedding, but rather how can you include your pet.

Before you decide what your pet will do, you should ask officials at the venues where your wedding and reception will be held if they allow pets on the premises. Some will have no restrictions in place, while others may.

One of the favourite ways is to incorporate your fur baby into the ceremony. Your pet can act as the ring bearer or escort the flower girl down the aisle, or even take a prominent place as your ‘best’ per right at the alter.

Whatever the role you choose for your pet, keep in mind that they will need a handler other than you who can care for them and get them down the aisle if need be.

If goes without saying that including your pets in your wedding does take some planning.

Its usually best to have your pet present in just one part of the day, say during your ceremony or for photos, and then arrange to have him or her taken home before the reception. And though it may seem like an unnecessary task to add to your to-do list, it will be worth the wonderful photo opportunity.

If you really love your best friend, don’t overlook having them in your wedding ceremony.

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed...

No matter how modern you are, we all like to hold on to a hint of tradition

Something old represents continuity of tradition from the past; something new offers optimism for the new life ahead; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity.

Ever wonder what this small yet much loved and adopted rhythmic superstition meant? While no bride should ever feel the need to be superstitious on her big day, these bridal superstitions where there to add a little extra karma to the special day. The poem is an Old English rhyme whose exact origins are not exactly known but was often recited during the Victorian era. There’s printed evidence in the 1894 edition of the Pennsylvania newspaper, The Warren Ledger.

It's a longstanding wedding tradition that brides wear something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue on their wedding day for good luck. Aside from the traditional approach of a blue garter, borrowed handkerchief, old jewellery, and a new wedding dress, below are a few suggestions to modernise the tradition.

            Something Old

           – for some creativity, add vintage jewellery to your bouquet; a small photo charm of family members that can’t attend ie. grandparents and attach that to your bouquet;

           Something New

            – if you’re taking his name then your new initials embroidered in to your wedding dress; carry a coin minted in the year of your wedding

           Something Borrowed

            - Use your dads wedding tie and wrap it around your wedding bouquet; accessories are a great thing to borrow if you can, it will make the lender feel that bit closer to you on your big day.

           Something Blue

            - Let your fingers do the good luck talking with a pale turquoise nail polish shade; cute shoes are a sassy and fun way of incorporating this lucky colour.

Traditionally a Bride would make that final walk as a single person on the arm of her father, however there is no hard and fast rule about who should walk with the Bride. Everyone’s circumstances are different so here are just a few suggestions to help you when trying to decide who it could be.

           Mum and Dad

both walk down the aisle with the Bride

Family form a Guard of Honour

and they each hand the Bride a rose as she passes by, (as pictured above)each of these are gathered together to make up her bouquet - place the bouquet in a vase on the signing table and gather it together for the recessional

           Bride walks with sibling/s

            - a popular choice if parents are not present on the day

Bride walks with both Dad & Step-Dad

           - a wonderful way to honour the part that both have played in the brides life

Bride and groom walk in together

            - a unique twist and only for those that are not 'superstitious'. This is often applied once the couples have had 'first-look' photo sessions with their phtographer

Bride walks in with Mum and / or Step-Mum

            - again a way to honour one or two amazing ladies

Would you wear your wedding dress without trying it on first?

The rehearsal is often the first time the whole wedding party gets together before the wedding ceremony and perhaps the first time some of the bridal party may have met each other.

Often my couples will request not to have a rehearsal as they have so much on their To Do list that fitting in a rehearsal can be quite the chore. So the big question - is a wedding rehearsal really necessary?

In my experience, I believe it is. Although you may have attended many weddings and have observed how it’s done, you haven’t actually walked that walk. Many brides are as cool as a cucumber until they hit the top of the ‘aisle’, then the adrenaline and nerves kick in and without a rehearsal they may get a little lost and not enjoy every moment as much as they should.

Forty-five minutes, on location, should be ample time to cover off such things as the logistics of your ceremony with the majority of the wedding party. It is important for any little people involved in the ceremony so that they know where to walk and who to walk to, a great chance for them to become familiar with your celebrant; choreograph where to stand; how to move into and out of the ceremony area; who will have the rings and how will they be handed over at that moment of the ceremony; where do the parents sit so they have the best view of their son or daughter’s face throughout the ceremony; where the signing table will be located; where will the guests reader stand. Also this is the ideal opportunity to complete the last of the legal documents before the ceremony.

A rehearsal held around the same time as the actual ceremony gives the opportunity to check where the sun will be at that time of day so as not to be shining into either the wedding party’s or guests eyes.

Those of my couples that pushed back on a rehearsal, always thanked me for guiding them in the direction of a rehearsal because it did help them to know what to expect, assisted in reducing their nerves and in turn contributed to a relaxed, seamless and spectacular ceremony - just as they had planned.

Five Suggestions For Brides Arrival

Your Arrival Could Be A Showstopper

Brides are often looking for something with a bit of an edge to make their wedding be a bit of a stand out, have a bit of an edge and being that there are so many choices in locations to have a wedding ceremony, the arrival choices are endless. Here are some of the more left of field ways that my brides/couples have arrived at their ceremony.

           Horseback

            - this is most little girls dreams and when it becomes a reality the photo opportunities and gasps from guests is so rewarding. Unless you are familiar with the unpredictable behaviour of horses when they are put in to unusual situations like excited guests, then refer to a reputable horse handler for these situations. Saddle and Bride are worth a call, Olof, pictured above is a gentle giant.

            Boat

           - one of my brides came across a lake on her father's tinnie; the guests were totally caught off guard and the flowing veil caught up in the breeze made for fabulous photos. The only thing that caught the couple off-guard was they hadn’t actually thought through how the bride was going to disembark from the boat. So there was only one thing to do, the groom carried his bride-to-be in fireman's lift. More amazing photo opportunities.

           Sea plane

            - yes how unique and such a treat for your guests. There is a downside of course and that is how to get from the plane to the beach.

           Semi-trailer

            - this was a fun wedding arrival and the truck had a dual purpose; once the bride had elegantly climbed down out the cab with her dignity in tact, the tray truck then became the 'stage' for the receptions entertainment - a bush band.

           Motorbike

            - this is a particular favourite for those who have a soft spot for leathers. A wedding I did recently had the groomsmen arriving at the ceremony with their bridal partners on the back. Certainly was a grand entrance but if you’re considering such an arrival, consider what your hair will be doing once you’ve taken off the helmet!

Tips On How To Include Mother Of The Groom

Your new mother-in-law (to be) will feature greatly in your lives, so now would be a good time to include her on this significant day

All too often the mother of the groom doesn’t have a role to play in the ceremony and yet she has played a big part in the upbringing of the groom. I was unexpectedly included in the ceremony when the celebrant chosen by my son and daughter-in-law to be suddenly took ill just as the ceremony began. I stepped in and carried on to complete the ceremony. Of course this is a highly unusual and not a way I ever envisaged that I would be included in my sons ceremony. For a less dramatic inclusion, here are a few ways to include the Mother-of-the-Groom.

           A reading

: providing MoG is confident to be able to step up and engage in public speaking, this would be an appropriate way to include her

Stand by the groom whilst he waits for his bride to arrive

; this is a particularly special touch

           Signing of the register

; there is no hard and fast rule (other than the witnesses must be over the age of 18) as to whom signs the register, so to have both mums witness this significant part of the ceremony is a special role for the day and it’s on paper.

           Presenter of the rings

; allowing MoG to be the ring bearer can address a fear of public speaking

Walking down the aisle with the Groom

            - why not have parents escort the Groom to the Celebrant just prior to the Bride arriving

I have finally decided to take the plunge and add a blog to my site. I always wanted an easy way to share information with visitors and I’m super excited to start this journey. Keep coming back to my site and check for updates right here on the blog. Let's begin with this first topic of how to include the Mother of the bride in the ceremony.

Father of the bride usually has a few key roles on the day, father of the bride speech, father and daughter bridal dance, and of course walking his daughter down the aisle. What about Mum! Mum can be included on the day in a number of ways, and of course In families that have grown and have inherited wonderful step parents, the roles above can also be shared between mum, mother in law and step mum. Here are a few suggestions for consideration.

Walk down the aisle with the bride

            – traditionally, this is the role of the bride’s father, however there is no reason why it can’t be both parents or in the situation where Dad isn’t part of the day, then Mum can walk proudly with her daughter

           A poem or reading

            – this can be a bit tricky if Mum isn’t a fan pf public speaking, yet it can be a beautiful inclusion and tribute

           Signing of the register

            – why not ask Mum to play a significant part of the ceremony by witnessing the signing of the documents

           Acknowledge at the opening

            - this is a beautiful way to have your celebrant pay tribute to the values and the love that has been shared by your family over the years. To pay homage to parents at this time is recognition of the family you come from and the values that represents.
