I'm Cheryl Warry, a full-time authorised marriage celebrant and wedding MC based in North East Victoria, and I'm quite at home taking a wedding ceremony to higher ground.

I've married couples in the Victorian High Country, including ceremonies at Mt Hotham and Mt Buffalo, and I'm also a skier.

There's a line I love using about Falls Creek:

I can legally marry you in Australia in less time than it takes to ride the chairlift to the top.

And if getting to your ceremony involves riding that chairlift?

Even better.

A snow wedding isn't something I'd treat like a standard ceremony with a colder backdrop.

There are extra things to consider. Access. Weather. Clothing. Equipment. Where your guests will stand. How we'll handle the paperwork. Whether everyone can safely reach the ceremony location.

And, naturally, what happens if the mountain decides it has plans of its own.

Falls Creek weddings

Falls Creek gives couples the opportunity to create a wedding that feels more like an adventure than a single event.



You can bring everyone up the mountain, stay in the village and turn your wedding into a High Country getaway.

In winter, that might mean snow underfoot and guests arriving rugged up for an alpine ceremony.

Getting married at Mt Buffalo

Mt Buffalo is one of those places where nature has already done most of the decorating for you.

Granite formations, alpine vegetation, enormous views and some spectacular locations make it a very different wedding setting from a traditional venue.

I've married couples on Mt Buffalo, including at The Horn, and understand that a mountain ceremony needs some practical planning alongside all those beautiful ideas.

Access, changing weather, wind, footwear, guests and the ceremony setup all need consideration.

Then we get to stand somewhere incredible and get you married.

That's a pretty good day's work.

Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain weddings

Mt Hotham is another spectacular option for couples wanting a destination wedding in the Victorian High Country.

I've conducted weddings in the Mt Hotham area and know how different an alpine ceremony can feel from a traditional wedding closer to town.



You might be planning something intimate with a handful of people or bringing everyone up the mountain for the weekend.

Either way, we'll create a ceremony that belongs in the setting without letting the scenery become the only thing your guests remember.

Dinner Plain also opens up possibilities for couples who love the alpine landscape and want their wedding celebrations based in the mountains.

Planning an alpine wedding from Melbourne or interstate?

That's completely manageable.

High Country weddings are destination weddings for many couples, so you don't need to live locally for us to work together.



We can complete much of the planning remotely through calls, meetings and email.

I'll guide you through your Notice of Intended Marriage, legal requirements, vows and ceremony planning before you arrive.

We'll also talk about the practical side of your chosen ceremony location.

Because when your wedding involves a mountain, "Where exactly are we meeting?" becomes a surprisingly important question.

If you're planning to marry outside, we'll talk about what happens if conditions change.

That doesn't mean assuming something will go wrong. It means having a plan so nobody has to make frantic decisions five minutes before the ceremony.

I only book one wedding ceremony per day.



That's particularly important to me with High Country weddings.

Mountain roads, changing conditions and remote ceremony locations aren't situations where I want to be calculating how quickly I can leave one couple to reach another.

When I accept your wedding, I've allowed that day for you.

It gives us breathing room and gives me the flexibility to deal with the realities of a destination wedding in the mountains.
