Wedding Celebrant & MC North East Victoria
One familiar face from "I do" right through to the dance floor.
I'm Cheryl Warry, a full-time marriage celebrant and wedding MC based in Wangaratta and working throughout North East Victoria.
And if you're wondering whether having your celebrant stay on and MC your reception is a good idea, I might be slightly biased.
By the time your wedding arrives, I already know you.
I know your story, your families, your wedding party, the personalities in the room and probably a few stories that aren't suitable for the ceremony.
So once I've married you, I don't have to disappear.
I can pick up the microphone again at the reception and keep the celebration moving.
Same person.
Same energy.
And considerably fewer introductions.
First, let's get you married
Your ceremony sets the tone for everything that follows.
I create ceremonies that are personal, relaxed and engaging, with plenty of room for laughter and those spontaneous moments that make a wedding feel like yours.
I'll take care of the legal marriage requirements, guide you through your vows and write a ceremony around the two of you.
I'll also be there before the ceremony begins, checking everything is ready and settling any nerves that happen to arrive before you do.
Then you get married.
We celebrate.
Everyone hugs everyone.
Photos happen.
And instead of packing up and disappearing down the highway, I can head to the reception with you.
That's where MC Cheryl takes over.
So what does a wedding MC actually do?
A good MC keeps the reception flowing without making themselves the main attraction.
I'll work with your venue and wedding suppliers to help keep the important moments of your reception on track.
That might include:
- welcoming your guests
- introducing the wedding party
- introducing speeches
- coordinating with your venue
- working with your photographer and entertainment
- announcing important reception moments
- keeping an eye on the run sheet
- helping manage timing changes
- communicating what's happening to your guests
- keeping things moving without making the evening feel over-managed
And because weddings have a habit of developing their own timeline, I'll adapt when things shift.
Your guests shouldn't need to know that dinner was running ten minutes late.
They should be too busy having a good time.
Why have the same person as your celebrant and MC?
This is where the combination works particularly well.
We've already spent time together before the wedding.
I know how you want the day to feel.
I've met your wedding party.
I've probably spoken to your parents.
I know who's giving speeches and which names require a little extra pronunciation practice.
I've also spent the ceremony watching the room.
By the time everyone reaches the reception, I'm not a stranger picking up a microphone.
I'm already part of the day.
That continuity makes the transition from ceremony to reception feel easy.
Your MC doesn't need to become the entertainment
There is a difference between keeping a reception lively and turning it into a television game show.
I'm very happy with laughter.
I love a full dance floor.
I can handle a room and keep everyone's attention when I need it.
What I don't need to do is make your reception about me.
The best MC moments often look effortless from the guests' side of the room.
They know where they need to be.
The speeches happen.
Dinner keeps moving.
The photographer gets the shot.
The band or DJ knows what's next.
And the newlyweds are somewhere in the middle of it all enjoying themselves.
That's the goal.
Your friend can relax too
Being asked to MC a wedding sounds like an honour.
Then your friend receives the run sheet.
Suddenly they're checking the time, talking to the venue, rounding up speakers, trying to pronounce everyone's names correctly and wondering whether they're supposed to announce dessert.
Meanwhile, everyone else at their table is enjoying the wedding.
Having a professional MC means the friend you nearly gave the job to can simply be your friend.
They can have a drink.
They can enjoy dinner.
They can dance.
They can disappear to the bathroom without causing a minor scheduling crisis.
I'll handle the microphone.
I work with your wedding team
Your reception isn't run by one person.
It's a team effort.
Your venue or caterer needs to know when speeches are happening.
Your photographer may need you outside for ten minutes just as something else is scheduled to begin.
Your videographer needs to be ready.
Your band or DJ needs to know when we're moving into the next part of the night.
And sometimes dinner simply isn't ready at the exact minute printed on the run sheet.
That's normal.
As your MC, I'll communicate with the people working behind the scenes so we can adjust without your guests needing a running commentary on what's changed.
More importantly, you shouldn't be the person sorting it out.
You have a wedding to enjoy.
A reception that sounds like you
Not every couple wants the same kind of reception.
Some want high energy from the beginning.
Some prefer something elegant and relaxed.
Others want dinner, good speeches, a packed dance floor and very little fuss in between.
We'll talk about what you want before the wedding.
I'll learn who is speaking, the important relationships in the room, any family considerations and how you'd like the evening to unfold.
That allows me to MC in a way that suits your wedding rather than turning up with a standard script.
Celebrant and MC for North East Victoria weddings
Being based in Wangaratta puts me right in the middle of North East Victoria's wedding regions.
I work across:
- Wangaratta
- King Valley
- Milawa
- Whitfield
- Beechworth
- Rutherglen
- Wahgunyah
- Benalla
- Bright
- Mansfield
- Myrtleford
- the Victorian High Country
- and wedding venues throughout the wider North East Victorian region
I've worked at wineries, estates, farms, country properties, pubs, established wedding venues and up mountains.
If you've chosen your venue, tell me where we're going.
Winery wedding? Even better.
North East Victoria gives couples some incredible winery wedding options.
I've conducted weddings at venues including Brown Brothers, All Saints Estate, St Leonards Vineyard, De Bortoli Rutherglen Estate, Fowles Wine and winery properties throughout the King Valley.
Having your celebrant stay on as MC can work particularly well when your ceremony and reception are being held at the same venue.
Once you're married, we simply move from one part of the celebration into the next.
What happens before the wedding?
We'll plan both parts of your day together.
For the ceremony, we'll work through your legal paperwork, story, vows, ceremony structure and the people involved.
For the reception, we'll talk about:
- your wedding party
- reception entrance
- speakers and speeches
- meal timing
- special announcements
- cake cutting
- first dance
- entertainment
- important family considerations
- venue requirements
- anything unusual you've planned
- how you want the reception to feel
I'll coordinate the MC side with your wedding-day timeline so I know what's meant to happen before anyone hands me the microphone.
And because I've already been involved in your wedding planning as your celebrant, we're not starting that relationship from scratch.
One wedding ceremony per day
I only book one wedding ceremony per day.
For couples booking me as both celebrant and MC, that philosophy becomes even more important.
I'm there for your wedding.
I don't want to marry you, throw everything into the car and race across North East Victoria to another ceremony.
Having the day available gives us flexibility if timings change and allows me to stay focused on what's happening with you.
Weddings rarely run precisely to the minute.
That's perfectly fine.
Frequently asked questions about booking a celebrant and MC
Can you be both our marriage celebrant and wedding MC?
Yes. I offer both marriage celebrant and wedding MC services and can stay with you from the ceremony through to the reception.
Do we have to book you for both?
No. We can discuss which service best suits your wedding when you enquire.
What does a wedding MC do?
Your MC guides the reception, introduces key moments and speakers, communicates with guests and works with your venue and wedding suppliers to help the evening run smoothly.
Will you write our reception run sheet?
We'll work through the reception structure together and coordinate it with the venue and other suppliers involved in your wedding.
Will you introduce the speeches?
Yes. I'll introduce speakers and guide your guests through the key moments of the reception.
Will you organise games?
If games or particular activities are something you want, we can talk about them.
They're certainly not compulsory.
Your reception doesn't need games to be fun.
Can our friend still give a speech?
Absolutely.
Booking a professional MC doesn't take your friends and family out of the celebration. It means they can concentrate on the parts you actually want them involved in.
Do you travel for celebrant and MC bookings?
Yes. I'm based in Wangaratta and work throughout North East Victoria and the Victorian High Country.
Do you provide your own microphone and PA?
I provide a professional PA system and hands-free microphone as part of my full ceremony service. We'll discuss the reception sound arrangements with your venue as part of the MC planning.
How do we find out if you're available?
Send me your wedding date and venue through my contact page and I'll confirm availability.
Want one less thing to think about on your wedding day?
I'll get you married.
I'll know your people.
I'll know the plan.
And when everyone moves into the reception, I'll already know what happens next.
You get to be the newlyweds.
I'll keep hold of the microphone.
