One of the questions I'm often asked is: "Will you stay for a drink after the ceremony?"

The answer is - sometimes. After the legal paperwork is signed and I've officially pronounced you married, my role as your celebrant is complete.

For many weddings, that's my cue to quietly slip away while your guests gather for hugs, congratulations and those all-important family photos.

It's a natural time to leave because you're about to spend the next few hours celebrating with the people who matter most.

Every Wedding Is Different

Every now and then, a couple will invite me to stay for a celebratory drink.

It's always a lovely gesture and one I'm genuinely grateful for.

If time allows, I'll happily raise a glass with you before quietly heading off and leaving you to enjoy the rest of your day.

After all, this celebration belongs to you, your family and your friends.

One Wedding Was a Little Different

One of my favourite photos was taken after my nephew's wedding.

Yes, I was the celebrant. But I was also family. For once, I wasn't racing off to the next job or packing away my ceremony folder.

Instead, I was able to put my feet up, enjoy a cheeky glass of bubbles with my sister-in-law and soak up that wonderful atmosphere that only exists in the moments after a wedding ceremony.

The smiles. The hugs. The excitement. That beautiful feeling when everyone is still saying,

"We just got married!"

Behind Every Ceremony Is a Quiet Exit

Most couples don't notice it, but celebrants have perfected the art of the quiet goodbye.

Once I've checked that all of the legal documents are safely packed away, made sure you've got everything you need and wished you both the biggest congratulations, I'll usually disappear without making a fuss.

Because the spotlight should always stay exactly where it belongs. On the two of you.

More Than Just a Ceremony

Whether I stay for a quick celebratory toast or quietly head home, my favourite part is always the same.

Watching two people begin the next chapter of their lives surrounded by the people who love them most.

It's a privilege I'll never take for granted. And every single wedding reminds me why I still love what I do.
